WITH 13 homeless people and families needing help in one day last week, a Redlands organisation is quickly running out of supplies.

Night Ninjas founder Alix Russo said volunteers had given provisions to four people or families during the day on Monday last week. That night another nine people visited their mobile service at Cleveland and Capalaba.

Some were sleeping in tents and others in cars. All were in the Redlands.

Among them was a family that was living in a car after losing their belongings in storms caused by ex-Cyclone Debbie.

“They had been camping in the bush and everything had been washed away in the rains,” Ms Russo said.

She said it seemed they were not the only organisation struggling to meet the needs of people who were homeless.

“Everywhere across Brisbane is bursting at the seams.”

Ms Russo said she had approached organisations outside Redlands to house families, but was told no accommodation was available.

She welcomed efforts by business Mike’s Marine, together with Capalaba Sports Club and Redland City Bulletin, to raise funds and collect donations for Night Ninjas.

Mike’s Marine is hosting a game of barefoot bowls followed by a barbecue lunch at the Capalaba Sports Club on April 30 from 10am to 2pm.

Tickets for the event are $10 with the full amount going to Night Ninjas.

There will also be lucky door prizes and raffles.

Participants are asked to take along items such as underpants, socks, tracksuit pants, toilet paper, tinned and non-perishable food to donate to Night Ninjas.

Bookings are essential and can be made by calling Shelley at Mike’s Marine on 3390 3418 or emailing admin@mikesmarine.com.au from April 18.

Prior to that date, expressions of interest to attend the bowls event can be registered with the Redland City Bulletin reception on 3826 8200 or by emailing reception.qld@fairfaxmedia.com.au.

Donations of the items above can also be dropped off at Redland City Bulletin, corner of Delancey Street and Finucane Road, Ormiston, during office hours.
