Celebrating the wonderful compassion and community spirit around us, Night Ninjas is thrilled to mark two years of Pancake Breakfasts at Redland Bay Marina.
The journey began in 2022 when we wanted to put the Night Ninjas van to more use. Gary, now our pancake master, was chatting with our long time supporter, Kim Richards, who was looking for ways to help the kids arriving for school on the mainland. The perfect match was made and the teams haven’t looked back since.
For the past two years, the combined team have been brightening Thursday mornings at the marina from 6:30am. Greeting the kids with warm smiles, friendly chat and plates of freshly cooked pancakes has become a cherished routine. The addition of a second breakfast feed in 2023, supported by TransDev volunteers, has extended the reach of this heartwarming initiative.
In 2023 alone, a staggering 20,000 pancakes were served – what an achievement!
While the pancakes are undoubtedly a favourite, we provide fruit and cold drinks as well to ensure a wholesome start to the day. When we say “we provide”, remember it’s really our community that is providing. The whole operation, from van through to all the food & drinks, one way or another is all the result of grants and donations from our community.
It’s not just about filling bellies either, regular chats with the kids and locals stopping by make it an uplifting way to start the day. The Pancake Breakfasts are a symbol of love, support, and the unwavering commitment of everyone involved to make a positive impact.
And the kids – they are amazing.
So as we flip into year three of this incredible journey, we extend our heartfelt thanks to all the dedicated individuals that make this happen every week. Especially Gary, Becky, Kim, Chase, Patch and the TransDev team. Here’s to many more years of flipping pancakes, warming hearts, and creating positive change!
